Driver Education in Hamtramck, MI
Embarking on the journey of driver education in Hamtramck, MI, can be thrilling for your teen. Shondhan Enterprise, Inc. is here to guide them from laid-back classroom learning to real-world experience behind the wheel.
Teen Drivers Education
Welcome to the first step in your teenager's driving journey! If your son or daughter has reached the age of 14 years and 8 months, they're on track to start Segment I of their driver education, a milestone of independence and responsibility. Shondhan Enterprise, Inc. is proud to offer a comprehensive curriculum certified by the Michigan Department of State to help your child become a confident and safe driver on the roads of Hamtramck and beyond.
Driver Education Segment I
- 24 hours of classroom instruction over three weeks to establish a strong road safety foundation (3 weeks, 4 days, a week, and 2 hours a day).
- 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, providing hands-on experience with a professional instructor (1 hour a day for 6 days).
- 4 hours of observation time in a training vehicle to learn by watching peers (1 or 2 hours a day).
- After completion, your teen may secure a Level I License, which does not include a fee from the Secretary of State but does require a vision exam, adherence to health standards, and parental written approval. Teens with this license can revel in their newfound freedom, albeit only when accompanied by a parent or designated licensed adult over the age of 21.
- Required written exam. Pass the multiple choice exam with 80% or above.
Driver Education Segment II
Advancement to Segment II hinges on your teen having a valid Level I License for at least 90 continuous days and logging 30 hours of supervised driving—night owls, take note—two of those hours must be after dusk. Shondhan Enterprise, Inc. offers two unique Segment-II classes each month, tailoring our schedule to fit your family's needs.
The requirements for Segment II are as follows:
- Still holding a valid Level I License from Segment I for at least 90 days.
- A minimum of 30 hours spent gaining real-world experience on the road, with two dedicated to nighttime driving.

Adult Driver Training and Classes
To begin driver training, an initial step is to secure a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) from a Secretary of State (SOS) branch office. Once this permit is obtained, a 30-day period of driver training and classes is mandatory in Hamtramck, MI, before attempting the road test—unless you hold a foreign driver's license.
Special Provision for Foreign License Holders
For those with a valid driver's license from their home country, the 30-day waiting period can be waived. It is important to ensure that the SOS branch office endorses your Temporary Instruction Permit with a “Waive 30 days” stamp, which allows you to immediately qualify for the road test.
